ATLANTIC COAST OF IRELAND

Well here we go again, heading west. The destination this year is uncertain, as the potential for large chunks of work disrupting sailing is high. The vague plan is to head for the Isles of Scilly again, then aim for the Fastnet Lighthouse, making landfall at Crookhaven, which was the furthest west I travelled last year. From there, up the west coast as far as Dingle. Or possibly further… a loop of Ireland? We shall see.

What a winter it has been for EIVIVA. The main engine went runaway in November—this is where an oil leak falls on something hot and produces a gas that the engine can run on. The engine then runs away, screaming like a banshee until it blows up with a bang. Luckily this happened close to the entrance to Chichester Harbour, and Captain Sharpie was out on his Hallberg-Rassy 29 and gave me a tow to my mooring. A good part of £25K later, and EIVIVA has a new Yanmar engine that I am now running in.

So, this story starts later than the last trips. I am going to try a different style of blog this year. Every day I will write down the key events that occur and snap some photos when there is something interesting to see. Then once a week I will pull it all together into a blog to post. So here goes.
